Why am I doing this?
I have spent much of my professional life doing nothing other than working as hard as I can for somebody else. That somebody else has more often than not been a mindless corporation. Over the past ten years I have felt maybe three times that I made someone’s life better doing what I commit to doing 40+ hours a week.
I decided a long time ago that I want to find a way to help people. I want to help better the lives of others, in whatever small way I can. Then I realized: I know how to write, I know how to set up a website, and, more importantly, I have learned a lot about fathering over the past 6+ years. I have made lots of mistakes and tried to learn from them. I hope to give you some of that knowledge back.
If at any time I seem preachy, call me out on it–please. Because I don’t know much more than the next half-educated guy out there.
That’s it. The honest truth.
I am a dad. Father of 4 kids, 2 alive, one dead, 1 more unborn.
Those are my qualifications.
I don’t sleep enough.
I’m from the U.S. but have lived in Vienna, Austria for the better part of 15 years. It was here that I met my wife, B., who was studying law at the time. I was studying German.
Later on, I turned into a corporate drone.
Over the course of that time period, we have experienced:
1 current pregnancy
I have difficulty balancing work, kids, reading, working out, going out, and television (glorious, glorious television!).
This makes me quite impatient at times. Not to mention that I now have the attention span of a canary.
I wasn’t always this way. I used to be quite lucid. And talented.
I have tried to learn from all of my experiences raising children. Sometimes I’ve failed. Just like everyone else out there, I make lots and lots of mistakes. I won’t give anyone the impression that I know everything. We’re all in this crazy ride together, whether we like it or not.
So sit back, enjoy the ride, and feel free to comment whenever you feel like it. I like feedback. It gives me something to rant about.
